Meditations was written in Greek by the Roman Emperor Marcus Aurelius. (Ad121 - 180). These personal reflections express the Emperor struggles, doubts, despair, and convictions. The Emperor's intentions were never to publish them but simply helped him to understand himself and to make sense of his fellow human beings' actions. The Meditations cover wide range topics such as human rationality, the nature of moral virtue or divine providence. Meditations is considered as the greatest work of Stoicism philosophy.
