The Violin Concerto in D major by Pyotr Tchaikovsky was composed in1878. It’s about 35 minutes and is divided into three movements. Now, one can say that this violin concerto is the best thing that came out of a terrible marriage. The concerto was dedicated to the Hungarian violinist Leopold Auer, and the premiere was scheduled for March 22nd, 1878. However, Auer told Tchaikovsky that the piece was unplayable. The first presentation eventually took place two years later by violinist Adolph Brodsky and Vienna Philharmonic. The performance received terrible reviews but as years went by, the concerto became Tchaikovsky's most beloved work.
