This book presents seventeen comments of text, which aim to shed light on the problematic question of the nation and nationalism in Europe from 1850 to 1920. It can not pretend to be exhaustive, but has set itself two goals: to contribute first to a general reflection on the nation, from classical documents such as Lord Acton's On nationality or 'What is a nation?' from Renan. An attempt is then made to approach extremely different cases, from the Italian and German units, and the Alsace-Lorraine question to the Irish claim or Pan-Slavism of a Dostoyevsky.
