Hemoglobin (Hb) is found in the red blood cells. It's rich in iron, and that iron is responsible for the red color of the blood. It's made up of four globulin chains that are connected to one another. The primary function of the Hb is to carry oxygen throughout the body. Each hemoglobin protein carries up to four molecules of oxygen. A low level of Hb causes anemia.
