The Monroe Doctrine was an American policy regarding European colonialism in the Americas. President James Monroe initiated it. It was issued on December 2, 1823, to prevent any attempt of the Europeans from establishing colonies in the Western Hemisphere. The four main points of the doctrine were: 1) the US won’t interfere in the internal European affairs. 2) the US won’t interfere with the existing European colonies in the Western Hemisphere, 3) no new colonization could take place in the Western Hemisphere in the future, and 4) any European attempt to control or oppress any nation in the Western Hemisphere would be considered aggressive.
