The Thar Desert or the Great Indian Desert is a large arid region forming a large part in the northwestern region of India. Covering an area of about 200,000 km2, the Thar Desert forms a natural boundary between India and Pakistan, with about 85% of it located within India and 15% in the latter. It covers parts of Bikaner and Jodhpur divisions of Rajasthan, and parts of Punjab, Haryana, and Gujarat, forming about 5% of India’s total geographic area. It has a rich biodiversity of flora and fauna like blackbuck, 'Indian Gazelle', Khejri tree, and many more. It is listed as the world’s 17th largest desert and the 9th largest subtropical desert.
