Romanticism was a movement in art and literature that originated in Europe in the late 18th century as a revolt against Neoclassicism of the previous centuries. The most important characteristic of the age is the expression of feelings and inner thoughts by the writers who gave value to Nature. The publishing of William Wordsworth’s and Samuel Coleridge’s ‘Lyrical Ballads’ in 1798 marked the beginning of Romantic literature in Europe. It ended with the crowning of Queen Victoria in 1837. Romantic writers like Lord Byron, William Blake, John Keats, P. B. Shelley, Robert Burns, Edgar Allan Poe, Jane Austen, and Emily Bronte defined the age.
