The aorta is the largest artery in the human body which connects directly to the heart, originating from its left ventricle and is the starting point for blood transport to the entire body. It is a tube about a foot long and approx an inch in diameter. The human heart pumps blood from the left ventricle into the aorta via the aortic valve and the 3 leaflets on the aortic valve opens and closes with each heartbeat to establish the one-way flow of blood.
