The steam engine was initially created in 1698. In 1712 the British inventor Thomas Newcomen improved it. Then, in 1785, James Watt improved it again by using heat more efficiently with less fuel. Steam engines were powered by coal. They developed the productivity of engines and allowed the creation of smaller and better drivers. Steam engines found their way to railways, boats, farms and road vehicle.
