A subfamily of coniferous trees, Sequoioideae which is widely known as redwoods, is known to be the largest tree in the world. The 3 types of redwoods are Coast redwoods, Giant Sequoias & Dawn Redwoods. Coast redwoods are amidst the oldest living organisms in the world. They can live for more than 2000 years and the oldest living redwood known to us is estimated at around 2200 years old. While their roots only extend down 6 to 12 feet, they make up for in breadth, what they lack in the depth. Extending up to 100 feet from the base, they intertwine with the roots of others, all holding on to each other which greatly increases their stability.
