The Boston Tea Party, an iconic movement of American history, is a political and mercantile incident that took place on December 16, 1773. It was a protest by the Sons of Liberty in Boston, Massachusetts. 342 chests of tea belonging to the British East India Company were thrown from ships into the Boston Harbor by the Americans. It mainly targeted the Tea Act of May 10, 1773, which allowed the company to sell tea from China to the American colonies without paying any taxes except those imposed by the Townshend Acts. The protest was against both the ‘taxation without representation’ imposed on tea and the monopoly of the East India Company.
