The Trial was written by Franz Kafka in 1914 and was published in 1925, after his death. In this great parable, Josef K. recounts his ordeal as he faces unknown charges. The novel starts by this thrilling sentence: "Someone must have been telling lies about Josef K., he knew he had done nothing wrong but, one morning, he was arrested." The narrator tries to figure out what he's accused of as he navigates bureaucratic roadblocks and confusing characters.
