The pancreas' mission is to digest the food that we eat. This organ extends across the abdomen, and its approximately 8 inches long. The pancreas has a hormonal and a digestive function. The hormonal function revolves around the secretion of glucagon and insulin. The combination of glucagon and insulin maintains the right level of sugar in the blood. As for the digestive function, enzymes are secreted by the exocrine gland in the pancreas. The enzymes help to digest proteins, carbohydrates, and fats.
