Joachim Murat was one of the most notable marshals of the Napoleonic Empire. Born on March 25th, 1767, Murat's childhood was humble. He enrolled in a cavalry regiment in 1787, and following the French Revolution, he quickly climbed up the military ladder. Murat met Bonaparte in 1795 and followed him in various military campaigns. He was known as one of the most outstanding leaders of the cavalry of his time. Napoleon named him Marshal in 1804. And although his political skills were limited, he became King of Naples in 1808. Murat became Napoleon's brother in law when he married Caroline Bonaparte. He died on October 13th, 1815.
