Napoleon Bonaparte and Tsar Alexander I signed the Treaty of Tilsit in 1807. The treaty put a temporary end to the confrontations and military battles between France and Russia between 1805 and 1807. The agreement outlined that France would not occupy any Russian territory following Russia's defeat at Friedland in 1807. Russia agreed to cease trade and economic connections with Britain by joining the Continental Blockade of 1806. At the same time, France agreed to help Russia against the Ottoman Empire. Russians were outraged by the treaty that was signed at Tilsit. For many, the Tsar had made an alliance with the antichrist.
