The charismatic movement is a movement that began near the start of the 20th century within mainstream Christian denominations. This movement focuses on baptism with the Holy Spirit and charismata, or spiritual gifts. It focuses on certain experiences by Jesus's early followers proceeding his death where they were blessed with certain gifts or abilities by the Holy Spirit, as described in the Christian Bible. Some of these spiritual gifts included being able to speak foreign languages without prior studying or knowledge, ability to prophesy and interpret prophecy, among others.
