Deism began in England in the mid-1600s and spread later to the rest of Europe and North America. Deism taught that God exists and should always be worshiped. However, they claimed that true religious and ethical teachings did not come from the Scriptures or the Church but instead obtained through the use of God-given human reason. Deists dismissed many basic Christian Biblical teachings because they believed these were not rooted in scientific research and human reason. For them, after God created the universe, He no longer directly intervened in the workings and did not perform miracles.
