
Born in 1976, Mark Rifkin earned his B.A. at Rutgers University in 1996 before attending the University of Pennsylvania for both his Master and Doctorate degrees. He is currently a professor of English, Women Gender and Sexuality Studies at the University of North Carolina. However, he is mainly interested in Native American politics and writing on which he has written several books. Namely, When Did Indians Become Straight?: Kinship, the History of Sexuality, and Native Sovereignty, which is acclaimed for its exploration normality and native self governance through the stories of queer native Americans.
