The Arctic Ocean is considered the smallest of the five oceans. It covers about 14 million square millions and is bounded by Russia, Canada, Scandinavia, and Greenland. The average depth is 3,406 ft. It has the lowest salinity of the five oceans. The climate is mainly characterized by persistent cold, and the ocean is covered by ice for most of the year. The Arctic is connected to the Pacific Ocean by the Bering Strait and to the Atlantic Ocean through the Greenland Sea. The seabed is characterized by the Lomonosov Ridge. The Lomonosov Ridge divides the seabed into two basins: the Amerasian Basin and the Eurasian Basin.
