The Atlantic Ocean is the second largest ocean in the world and covers 20% of the surface of the Earth. The average depth is between 10,955 feet and 12,881 feet. The width between Brazil and Sierra Leone is approximately 1,770 miles. The Equatorial Counter at 8 degrees north latitude divides the Atlantic Ocean into two parts: The North Atlantic and the South Atlantic. Africa and Europe are located on the East of the ocean and the North, and South America is on the West of the Atlantic Ocean. The bottom terrain of the Atlantic Ocean is mainly dominated by a mountain range called the Mid-Atlantic Ridge.
