Avicenna was born in 980 near Afshona, Uzbekistan. He was a Persian polymath whose field of work includes medicine, mathematics, chemistry, geology, physics, poetry, and paleontology. Avicenna is considered by many as the father of modern medicine. His book, The Canon of Medicine, is a five-volume encyclopedia of medicine. In the field of physics, he is known as the father of the fundamental concept of momentum in physics. In the course of his life, he wrote four hundred treatises about various topics. He died in 1037 near Hamedan in Iran.
