A term derived from Gustave Flaubert's novel 'Madame Bovary' (1857), 'Bovarysme' or Bovarism refers to the tendency toward escapist daydreaming in which the dreamer imagines himself or herself as a hero or heroine in a romance. This glamorized, glorified, and otherwise unrealistic conception of oneself often results in dramatic personal conflict. In psychology, Bovarism denotes anxiety to escape from a social or sentimental condition which is judged as unsatisfactory or when we get unsatisfied results of the choices we make. Hence, we develop an idealized image about ourselves to hide our true nature, thus creating a fictitious personality.
