Johann Wolfgang von Goethe was born on August 28th, 1749 in Frankfurt am Main in Western Germany. He was a German writer, philosopher, statesman, playwright, poet, and scientist. With regards to literature, Goethe is at the confluence of two movements: German Classicism and Romanticism. Mme de Stael would describe him as: “all that distinguishes the German mind.” His most notable work includes the Faust, Faust Part 2, The Sorrows of Young Werther, Elective Affinities. Goethe died on March 22nd, 1832 in Weimar. Quote: "He who is firm in will molds the world to himself."
