Wave power devices extract energy from the surface motion of ocean waves or from pressure fluctuations below the surface. Marine engineers have developed and implemented a variety of methods for collecting wave energy. These methods can be implemented on the shoreline, near the shore or offshore. The wave energy devices being developed and tested today are highly promising. Diverse technologies have been proposed to capture the energy from waves. Four applications may be suitable for deployment on the Outer Continental Shelf (OCS): the terminator devices, the attenuators, the point absorbers, and the overtopping devices.
