Iron was one of the essential requirements of the rapidly industrializing British Industry. Britain had good iron ore; however, the metal produced was of low quality and contained many impurities. In 1767, Richard Reynolds developed the first iron rails which helped costs decrease and raw material travel further. The significant development of iron came in 1783 when Henry Cort introduced the puddling and rolling techniques. These were ways of getting all impurities out of metal and allowing large-scale production and a vast increase in it. By 1800, following the technical developments, the iron industry was a net exporter.
