Standing at an elevation of 8,586 m, the Kanchenjunga, a mountain range of the Himalayas, is listed as the third highest mountain in the world and the second highest in Nepal. It lies in between Nepal and Sikkim, India. The name ‘Kanchenjunga’ is derived from the Tibetan words ‘Kanchen’ and ‘Dzonga’, meaning ‘The Five Treasures of the Great Snows’, as it comprises five peaks. The five treasures represent God’s five repositories - gold, silver, precious gems and stones, grains and holy books. The first successful climbers of the Kanchenjunga were Joe Brown and George Band in 1955. It doesn’t have an easy route due to high threats of avalanche!
