Being one of the largest cut diamonds in the world, the Koh-i-Noor is now a part of the British Crown Jewels. It weighs 105.6 carats and is probably mined in Kollur Mine beside River Krishna. Dating back to more than 5000 years, it is the oldest diamonds in the world. It is since the 18th century, that the diamond has been known by the name of Koh-i-Noor, which in Hindi-Urdu means ‘Mountain of Light’. Since then, it has changed many hands until it is surrendered to Queen Victoria. As the diamond’s history involves a great deal of fighting, it is considered bad luck to the men who wore it. It is worn only by the women members of the family.
