Landscape archaeology is a way for archaeologists to understand the past as a combination of people and their surroundings. It addresses the ways that people have unconsciously and consciously shaped the land around them. Human populations have engaged in a variety of methods in organizing space and altering the landscape around them for various reasons, including economic, political, social, and religious undertakings. The archaeological evidence utilized in landscape archaeology ranges across a continuum of methods, including the uses of aerial and satellite imagery, ground surface surveys, and ground-penetrating prospection technologies.
