Madame de Staël was born Anne Louise Germaine Necker on April 22, 1766, in Paris. Her father, Jacques Necker the Finance Minister of King Louis XIV. Her writings include Lettre sur Jean-Jacques Rousseau, Delphine, Corinne ou l'Italie and De L'Allemagne. Her stands on the Bonaparte regime caused her exile from Paris and eventually from France. During her exile, she traveled to Germany and met Goethe and Schiller. She also traveled to Italy, Switzerland, Austria, Russia, and Sweden and finally settled in England. Madame de Staël would return to Paris more than ten years later. She died on July 14, 1817.
