Obioma Nnaemeka is an internationally recognized expert of gender/women's studies, with a focus on African women's studies. She coined the term "nego-feminism" in a 2004 article to describe the pluralism of African feminisms. Nego-feminism is a feminism of negation, or of no ego. The term captures a shared sentiment of diverse feminisms in southern Africa, proposing to build on indigenous foundations. It aims to shift focus to the intersectionality of the present moment in which action occurs, which represents both being (ontology) & becoming (evolution). Nego-feminism renarrativizes, centring experience & present actionable possibilities.
