Pygmalion, a play written by the Irish playwright George Bernard Shaw in 1912, was first presented on the public stage in 1913 which was produced in German in Vienna. In England, it was performed in 1914. ‘Pygmalion’ is a romance in five acts and is a humane comedy centered around the themes of love and the English class system prevalent at that time. The play is adapted in a motion picture of the same name in 1938 and later in another in 1956 named ‘My Fair Lady’ featuring Audrey Hepburn as Eliza Doolittle. The play is named after a Greek mythological figure who fell in love with Galatea - one of his sculptures, which came into life late on.
