The Telescope is a colour woodblock print by the Japanese artist Katsushika Hokusai. This artwork dates from 1802 and is in the midst of the Edo period. We observe a young lady peering through a telescope while the older woman next to her is holding a parasol and seems curious about whatever caught the young lady's attention. As the piece is part of Hokusai's series Seven Stylish Foible, the mainstream interpretation suggests the depiction of voyeurism. The Telescope is a great artwork of the Ukiyo-e genre.
