The Battle of Borodino took place on 7 September 1812 during the French invasion of Russia. It involved around 250,000 troops, with at least 70,000 casualties, making it the deadliest day of the Napoleonic Wars. It is the bloodiest single-day war in history. The French army (known as Grande Armée) under Napoleon I, attacked the Imperial Russian army of General Mikhail Kutuzov, near the Borodino village. Although the French army captured the main positions, it couldn’t defeat the Russian army.
