Bounded by the Hudson Strait to the north, the Hudson Bay to the west, the Gulf of St. Lawrence to the southeast and the Labrador Sea to the east, the Labrador Peninsula is the sixth-largest peninsula in the world covering an area of approximately 541,000 sq. miles located in eastern Canada. The Labrador Peninsula is a plateau, threaded by numerous river valleys & was native land to the Cree & Innu people prior to the arrival of Europeans. They referred to it as Nitassinan, which means "our land" & was later named after Portuguese explorer Joao Fernandes Lavrador, who actually 1st spotted the peninsula in 1498.
