The Rockefeller University was founded by the business tycoon John D. Rockefeller in 1901. It was initially called the Rockefeller Institute for Medical Research. From the laboratories of the Rockefeller Institute for Medical Research have come treatments for diseases, and new knowledge and scientific techniques which have helped to revolutionize medicine, biophysics, and other scientific disciplines. It's now a private university that offers graduate, doctoral, and postdoctoral education in New York. The programs are primarily related to the biological and medical sciences.
