These proportions make them very powerful and strong. Its life expectancy is between 8 and 10 years. The Saint Bernard has a very large and imposing black nose and its ears are medium size. It can have two coat types: longhaired that is usually wavy or dense shorthaired. The coat is usually white around the collar, the chest, the nose, the tip of the tail and the feet. The rest of coat can be various shades of red with white.
