The Woodland Caribou are found in the boreal and northern forests of Canada. Those who make home the mountainous western areas, make seasonal movements from the winter range on the mountainside to the Tundra. They're essential to the ecosystem and humans. According to the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF), the number of Woodland Caribou is dropping drastically. They face a variety of environmental and human-caused threats. These threats include climate change, mining exploration, and the lack of harvest information. Organizations such as Earth Rangers and Pembina Institute work hard to identify areas in Alberta that need protection.
