Transmisogyny is an intersectional term which describes how the oppressions and discriminations faced by women and by trans individuals are experienced simultaneously by trans women or transfeminine people. The term was coined by Julia Serano, who proposed that it is founded upon an assumption of male or masculine superiority over the female or feminine. Transmisogyny exists through the sexualization of trans female/feminine people, through the targeting of psychiatric diagnoses to feminine spectrum people, through violence perpetrated against these identities, and in media through ridicule towards feminine gender identity or expression.
