Our Earth is made up of various layers and is a result of undergoing planetary changes over so many decades, with the deposition of denser materials to the centre or the core and lighter ones forming on the top. The core is mostly made of nickel and iron. The Earth’s mantle, above the core, is composed of silicate rock and minerals like iron, magnesium, aluminium, oxygen and others. The mantle accounts for 84% of the Earth’s volume, having an average thickness of 2,900 km. Any movement or convection happening in this layer causes seismic or volcanic activities. Although predominantly solid, it acts as a viscous fluid due to high temperatures.
