Zouk is a musical movement that comes from the French West Indies islands of Guadeloupe and Martinique. It's also popular in other Caribbean Islands such as Saint Martin, Saint-Barthélemy, French Guiana, and Haiti. The music is in French or French Creole. The word Zouk refers to nightlong parties. The roots of the musical rhythm come from Haitian Compas and Dominican Cadence. The dance is sensual in a slow-quick rhythm. The most notable Zouk singers are Alan Cavé, Jocelyne Béroard, Leila Chicot, Eric Virgal, and Daan Junior.
